Department of Bionanotechnology
of Kemerovo State University
Bionanotechnology was established in early 2010 in need of the domestic market for highly qualified specialists in the field of biotechnology.
During this time, the department has graduated more than 500 specialists who hold senior positions at domestic and foreign enterprises and laboratories.

More than 200 Projects
Implemented since 2009 by specialists of the Department of Bionanotechnology
83 %
Young scientists
Most of the teachers of the department are practicing young scientists
Direction "Biotechnology" (profile - food biotechnology) studies the biotechnological potential of raw materials of animal and vegetable origin in order to obtain food additives, new enzyme preparations and biologically active substances based on microbiological synthesis, develops new, most cost-effective and promising technological solutions, which allows to create high-quality products of the food and processing industry of various functional orientation.

Graduates are able to work with operational management of the production of biotechnological products for the food industry, ensure the functioning of the food quality management system and biotechnology.

Bachelor's degree

Direction "Biotechnology" (program "Technologies, quality and safety of biotechnological products for the food industry, technology and project management") carries out strategic management of production development
Biotechnological products for the food industry, as well as the development of proposals for improving biotechnology of surfactants using microbiological synthesis and biotransformation of microorganisms, cell cultures of animals and plants.
Graduates work with professional activities in organizations and enterprises of the biotechnology, food industry, analytical laboratories, research institutes, educational institutions of secondary and higher professional education, have experience in project management, teamwork, writing grants and articles.
The program is aimed at students with biological and natural science knowledge. It’s a great option for you if you are interested in fundamental approaches to molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics; you want to create something new: technology, dietary supplements or other product for the market.

Master's degree

The Department of Bionanotechnology trains highly qualified personnel in the specialty "Biotechnology of food and biologically active substances" and "Food systems".
The main tasks of training highly qualified personnel are:
- in-depth study of the theoretical and methodological foundations of the relevant branch of science in the profile of the scientific specialty;
- formation of skills of independent research and pedagogical activities;
- formation of competencies necessary for successful scientific and scientific-pedagogical work in this field of science.
KemSU has a dissertation council 24.2.315.0 (active reference to the council) in scientific specialties: 4.3.3. Food systems (technical sciences), 4.3.5. Biotechnology of food and biologically active substances (chemical sciences, biological sciences).
Graduates are able to work with operational management of the production of biotechnological products for the food industry, ensure the functioning of the food quality management system and biotechnology.

Postgraduate studies

Laboratory of Phytoremediation of Technogenically Disturbed Ecosystems
The Laboratory of Phytoremediation of Man-made Disturbed Ecosystems was opened in October 2021 and is engaged in solving a large-scale task - the development of innovative methods of reclamation of coal dumps to improve the environmental situation in Kuzbass.
At the moment, about 175 thousand hectares have been violated in the Kemerovo region (for comparison - the area of the city of Kemerovo is only 30 thousand hectares). In some areas, man-made changes affect up to 20% of arable land.
The laboratory staff consists of 81% young scientists - former graduates of the department.

Projects of the Department

Laboratory of Biotesting of Natural Nutraceuticals
It was established in 2019 and sets itself a solution to one of the global problems of mankind - the prevention of premature aging.
In 2018, the class of Russians aged 60 and over was 25.4% of the country's population. According to the forecasts of the World Health Organization, by 2050 this figure will be 31.2%. This trend is accompanied by a rapid increase in the spread of "old age diseases."
You can slow down the aging process by including components with geroprotective properties isolated from plants.

Our students and their achievements

The educational program is aimed at obtaining applied skills in the field of biotechnology.
Therefore, since the 1st year, students have been engaged in research activities on the basis of the Scientific Research Institute of Biotechnology of KemSU.
Active scientific activity allows our students to publish in leading domestic and foreign journals, receive increased state scholarships and grant support for the implementation of projects
